Who Is Raine Maida?

Remember the 1990's? Remember all the great one hit wonders? How about "Superman's Dead"?

The lead singer of the alternative rock group responsible for this hit and other diddys, Our Lady Peace, has reemerged with his first solo record, The Hunters Lullaby, due out August 26th from Canada's Kingnoise Records. Raine Maida goes on his self-professed "quest to be a decent human being" on this acoustic-laden, hip-hop influenced, indie folk-styled album.

Sounds like a mindfull, huh? Well you get a little of it all from this very creative musician/producer who revels in the fact that for the first time he owns and completely controls the music he has created. All songs were said to have been recorded with acoustic instruments only, so the quality of sound produced in tracks like, "Yellow Brick Road" and "Careful What You Wish For", comes across as a mesh of musical cultures (as demonstrated by use of a snake charmer flute) and spoken word over piano, guitar, and drum beats with high hats.

This album is different from most Our Lady Peace music you may be accustomed to; however, if you find yourself intruiged by what you've heard so far, check out Raine Maida's MySpace or his official website. Be on the lookout for The Hunters Lullaby, available next month.
